Hindu organization helps to create a scholarship program for needy Yezidi students

Global Hindu organization Sewa International, charity wing of the world’s largest volunteer organization RSS,  has tied up with Yezidis International to create a scholarship scheme for needy Yezidi students. The scholarship program will pay the tuition fees for students whose parents have lost everything under ISIS genocide of the Yezidis in Iraq. Already two students Ayad Faisal and Khairi Soso, who were stuck in India have been helped due to this program. Four more scholarships were given out earlier. In future other Yezidi students also stands to benefit.


Sewa International sources told Yezidi Post that they would welcome all Yezidi students, particularly Yezidi girls to come and study in India as part of global women empowerment initiative of the organization. The education in India is quite affordable and is sought after internationally. CEOs of major technology companies, Microsoft and Google are India educated. Other multinational companies PepsiCo and Mastercard has also embraced India educated CEOs. The Indian economy is today the fastest growing large economy, the 3rd in the world in terms of Purchsing Power Parity and 7th in nominal terms.

Yezidi Post reliably learnt that two Yezidi students, Ayad Faisal and Khairi Soso who were stuck in Iraq, were helped with flight expenses and tuition for a year by Yezidis International. Aditionally 4 scholarships worth $500 each and totally amounting to $2000 was distributed among 4 students. A GoFundMe page was launched by Yezidis International where $8002 was raised. Excluding fees (around 10% of the collected amount) around $7200 was left. Gulie Khalaf , founder and treasurer of Yezidis International contributed from her own savings some amount to ensure that the tuition and fight expenses of both students are ensured. Totally $7380 was distributed to the students. Details have been provided in the Yezidis International facebook page.


The scholarship program is the culmination of years of efforts  by Yezidis International treasurer and founder Gulie Khalaf, starting from the time she met RSS Sarsanchalak Mohan Bhagwat at ICCS Conference in Mysuru in 2014. Mohan Bhagwat has blessed the Yezidis and has extended organizational assistance to the Yezidis to preserve the Yezidi faith and empower the community.
