Hindu monk Swami Vivekananda inspires Yezidi faith to be represented at Parliament of the World’s Religions

Yezidi Sanatan Dharma Society (YSDS) helps to bring the Yezidi faith to the Parliament of the World’s Religions

Salt Lake City: Hindu monk Swami Vivekananda attended the first Parliament of the World’s Religions held in 1893 and took the world by storm, bringing Hinduism to the global stage. Following his footsteps, the pagan delegation in US in collaboration with Nallein Al Sowilo of Yezidi Sanatan Dharma Society (YSDS) decided to represent the Yezidi faith at the last Parliament of the World’s Religions conference at Salt Lake City, held between Oct 15th-19th , 2015.

This was for first time in 100 year history of Parliament of the World’s Religions conference that the Yezidi faith was represented. The largest interfaifth gathering in world was made aware of the Yezidi religion and human rights abuses done by ISIS.  The first parliament was held in 1893 and is recognized as birth of formal inter-religious dialogue worldwide. It wasn’t held again until hundred years latter in 1993, but has been held every five years since then. This past year the parliament which ran from October 15th to 19th at Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah drew somewhere between eight to ten thousand delegates from eighty nations and fifty different faiths. YSDS in partnership with Pagan Federation International Coordinator Morgana Sythove , who was the YSDS official representative at the event, represented the Yezidi faith. Moroana Sythove  spoke on panel on religions about human rights abuse by ISIS. “As a pagan , I talked about Yezidi religion being one of the oldest faiths in world and the last Dharmic pagan culture in Iraq. It is an unique faith based on the belief in the reincarnation of souls. This attracted  ISIS to Mount Singhal who killed thousands, kidnapped many women and tortured them and also destroyed many ancient pagan sites in the region. I also spoke about the resurgence of Zoroatrianism.” Finally she adds, “I mentioned that Yezidis need international help immediately” Morgana also participated on panel discussion about women abuse were she talked on  sexual abuse of Yezidi  women by ISIS.
